Tim Duncan helps democracy.

I was going to put this in the Fan Shot section, but I don't think anyone reads those. I think it says a lot about our Tim Duncan that every time The Onion makes fun of him is for being too nerdy/ intellectual, instead of say...for having a penchant for hookers. Also, being that he's not really a big celebrity like other basketball players, it makes me think that perhaps someone in The Onion is a Spurs/Duncan fan. Enjoy:

And now for something completely different...

This has absolutely nothing to do with the Spurs. Just getting that out of the way. Anyway, since the offseason has been pretty slow. I figures I'd put a pic of some of my fish tanks. Because what can be more exciting than the dangerous and extreme world of freshwater fishkeeping?

My 20 gallon tank. Those all natural plants. Just as with boobs, there's really no comparison between the real thing and silicone.

This is a Bamboo Shrimp. This guys is a fervent believer, praying to the FSM for food in this picture.

Male adult Platy. I had to take all the females out because they were breeding like crazy, so this guy must be going out of his mind.

My 10G tank. The driftwood in the middle is a little phallic looking. No I'm not gay. No I don't have anything against gays, in my state CA they can marry.

Neon Tetras with some Ghost Shrimp in the picture. Neons are pretty flashy, if they were humans, they'd probably drive Escalades with spinning chrome rims.

Female Betta. If she were a human, she'd probably be the chick at high school who asks, Why are you so weird? Before returning her attention to her glittery nails. No I don't have issues.

Well, that's all. I think I just destroyed whatever shred of respect I had in this site.

Oh, and yes. I do have a girlfriend. I met her on a fish forum. I'm not even kidding

Lakers Vs. Celtics, who do you root for?

I think this is a matter of personal taste, like if they asked you, who would you choose, Hitler or Stalin? Well, if you're a person who wishes short mustaches made a comeback, you would probably go with Hitler. If you always had a thing for short people, then Stalin would be your choice.

In my case, I will go for the Celtics. I know I know, they're a bunch of jersey popping jackasses who's cast includes Ray Allen, the proud owner of a mangina,  Paul Pierce, who suddenly gives a shit about playing defense, and Kevin Garnett, who's on court "intensity" is like a porn star's moaning, meaningless. But I just can't bring myself to go for the Lakers. The Celtics are annoying as hell, but what about a team headed by Kobe "now trade me now don't" Bryant? The guy wanted to trade the Lakers future for Jason "yeah, I beat my wife a little" Kidd for fuck's sake, and he would get rewarded for that with a ring? Call me old school, but I can't root for a psychopath. I guess they don't make them like me anymore.

So who will you go for? Celtics or Lakers? Or world destruction? Or will you ignore the NBA Finals are happening and just think happy thoughts like the psychologist told you?

I think one thing we can all agree on is, looking at the Celtics and Lakers, we have to be glad we're Spurs fans.

Manu votive candle.

I'm pretty sure you guys have seen this already, but I haven't until today. After we lost the first two game in the series, this guy decided to make a Manu votive candle ( like those saint candles you see in hispanic areas) and obviously that, plus our combined mojo has worked miracles on our team. And lest I incur his wrath, I gotta give props to the Flying Spaghetti Monster, frenchie has obviously been touched by His noodly appendage.

Manu's Candle.

The Kurt Thomas trade as analyzed by Charley Rosen.

San Antonio-Seattle

San Antonio gets: Kurt Thomas
Seattle gets: Brent Barry, Francisco Elson, 2009 first-round pick

Getting Kurt Thomas is a bonanza for the Spurs. Even at the advanced age of 35, he still has enough left of exactly what the Spurs need. He's a rugged big man with great hands, a deadly mid-range jumper, veteran smarts, and the ability to play exceptional low-post defense. Thomas' presence will relieve Tim Duncan of some disadvantageous mano-a-mano defensive matchups while permitting TD to do more of what he does best: provide defensive help from the weak side.

Losing Brent Barry is painless because his 36-year-old body is breaking down and Ime Udoka is younger, paid less, plays defense, can hit treys, and is primed and ready for big-time minutes.

Francisco Elson is a runner and a mid-range shooter whose finesse game never really fit into the Spurs' scheme of things.

Unless the Spurs unexpectedly fall on hard times, their top pick in the 2009 draft won't be particularly valuable.

San Antonio's grade: A+

Seattle, on the other hand, was more interested in the future than the present. Barry and Elson, along with their respective contracts, will be cut loose as soon as the law allows. The addition of still another first-round pick, coupled with the creation of ample salary cap space, should make the Sonics important players in both the trading and free agent markets during the off-season.

It's hard to ignore the possibility of some Ainge-McHale-style hanky-panky between Sam Presti and his old team. Perhaps Seattle could have gotten more for Thomas. In any case, they got the chips they were seeking.

Seattle's grade: another B+

Here's the whole article where he analyzes all the recent trades.

James White Vs. A Jumping Myth

I know he doesn't play for us anymore, but I found this article I thought was pretty interesting about the rumor that some players can touch the top of the backboard. So who did they get to prove or disprove this? James White of course...After some NBA guys wouldn't do it, but still! Check it out.

Spurs-Lakers Matchup

I'm very excited about this game because it's not only one of the few games I get to see, but I also have a friend who's a Lakers fan so in case we win, I have someone to talk about the game with while dropping subtle hints of our superiority. Anyway, here's the Spurs-Lakers matchup as done by The Onion. Nowhere else can you get this kind of insight and wisdom. Enjoy.

San Antonio Penetrators

NEW YORK (AP) - The NBA has spoken with the Los Angeles Lakers about a sexual reference coach Phil Jackson made in a comment following Tuesday night's game in San Antonio.

The Spurs made 13 3-pointers in their 107-92 victory, and Jackson was asked if too much penetration was leading to open outside shooters.

"We call this a 'Brokeback Mountain' game, because there's so much penetration and kickouts," Jackson said. "It was one of those games."

The 2005 film, which won three Oscars, depicts two cowboys who conceal their homosexual affair.

"The remarks are in poor taste, and the Lakers have assured us such remarks will not occur in the future," league spokesman Brian McIntyre said.

Southwest Previwe by Charley Rosen.

Well, since I learned a lot of stuff about basketball by reading Charley Rosen's columns, here's his southwest preview. Now, I realize he's disliked by many people, but what can I say, I got a soft spot for the guy, because of his writing I turned from a know-nothing new fan of basketball to a barely knowledgeable fan. Big improvement, anyway, enjoy.
